XWA ""Last Fight At The Proms"" News

Posted on 05 November 2007 by Wrestling News

Recently The Visitor newspaper in Morecambe broke the devastating news that due to council cutbacks, men in suits are set to meet to decide the future of The Morecambe Dome and that it will be demolished at some point in the next few years. The only question is,when?

The Dome could close at the end of 2008 – after all,the XWA has dates booked in until the end of next year. Or it could receive a stay of execution for a good few years to come. Or at the very worst case scenario, the council may decide to close it down at the end of this year, meaning Saturday November 24 2007 could very well be the last time the XWA is able to hold a live wrestling event at one of the British scene’s best and most historic venues.

With the future uncertain, the XWA has pulled out all the stops to make sure that on Saturday November 24 we will host one of the strongest cards The Morecambe Dome has ever seen – just in case it turns out to truly be the ‘Last Fight At The Prom’…

JUST SIGNED – THE RETURN OF THE ZEBRA KID!

Zak Zodiac made an open challenge last week for anyone to face him at XWA Last Fight At The Prom – but surely the masked teenager couldn’t have predicted the identity of the man who has accepted his offer.

Because returning to the XWA on Saturday November 24 at The Dome, for his first appearance in Morecambe since 2004,will be one of British wrestling’s biggest names and most talented,hard-hitting performers, and Zak Zodiac’s elder brother – The Zebra Kid!

The Zebra Kid is a former All-England Champion – in fact he lost that very title to former ECW star Chris Hamrick in one of the greatest matches ever seen at The Morecambe Dome in April 2003 – who has recently signed to make his return to Morecambe and the XWA. His last appearance at The Dome came in June 2004 when he battled “The Anarchist” Doug Williams and James Tighe in a three-way match for the British Heavyweight Title. So this guy has pedigree, and Zak Zodiac – who knows ZK only too well – surely won’t be happy at having to share a ring with him. But the cocky youngster made his bed,and now he’ll have to lie in it!

The Zebra Kid vs Zak Zodiac has been added to the card for ‘Last Fight At The Prom’ which is shaping up to be one of the strongest and most exciting line-ups of all-time at The Morecambe Dome, including:

THE MAIN EVENT – for the British Heavyweight Championship:
“The Wonderkid” Jonny Storm v “The Psychotic Warrior” Johnny Phere

Storm returns to The Dome for his first title defence of the championship he fought for so long to attain against the ‘Battle of Britain’ tournament winner who has been on an absolute roll in 2007,and claims he will round off the Year of Phere by lifting the biggest prize of them all. Jonny has had some amazing nights in The Dome over the years – it’s the place where his FWA career was nearly ended when he lost to James Tighe in May 2004,and it’s where he captured the British Heavyweight Title from Robbie Brookside earlier this year. As for Phere,The Dome is where he made his FWA debut against WWE star Paul Burchill in 2004,and where he has gone on an unstoppable winning streak in 2007. Saturday November 24 will see the established star take on the insanely hungry up-and-comer for the biggest prize of all,and something has got to give!

MEGA GRUDGE TAG MATCH:
Sam Slam and “The Pukka 1″ Darren Burridge vs “Mr Deal or No Deal” Stevie Knight and ‘Rowdy’ Ricky Knight

As both Sam Slam and Darren Burridge have scores to settle with the loathed egomaniac Stevie Knight and his namesake The Rowdy One,the only solution is to put all four of them in the ring together. Expect the heat to be intense in The Dome as Burridge and Slam form an unlikely team hell-bent on revenge!

MEXICAN STREETFIGHT for the British Flyweight Championship:
“The Bombay Dream” Ross Jordan vs “The UK Luchador” El Ligero

El Ligero has his best chance yet of a fair shot at the conniving ‘Crown Prince of Bollywood’ in this wild anything-goes,No DQ environment and the masked Mexican’s speciality match. Can Jordan escape with the title once again or this time, will Ligero prove he truly has ‘The Bombay Dream’s number?

BEST OF THE NORTH WEST MATCH:
“Dangerous” Damon Leigh vs Simon Valour

Damon Leigh is back in the XWA with a new bad attitude and claims he will dominate the new Best of the North West Division. His victory in the division’s debut on September 30 saw DDL steal Si Valour’s moment of glory, leading to a one-on-one bout where we hope to find out who truly is the best.

TAG TEAM OPEN CHALLENGE:
The Manchester Massive vs ???

A mystery team has challenged Declan O’Connor and Joey Hayes – who have actually been winning matches of late. But who will it turn out to be?

PLUS – THE LAUNCH OF ROSS JORDAN’S NEW BOLLYWOOD FILM
“The Bombay Dream” invites all XWA fans to experience an evening of culture in Morecambe and the launch party for his latest Bollywood blockbuster,’Bend It Like Jordan’.

AND – THE MORECAMBE RAFFLE

Could this be the last time we see the Biggest Cult Experience in British Wrestling in the place where it all started?

XWA ‘Last Fight At The Prom 2007′ is on Saturday,November 24 at The Dome,Marine Road Central,Morecambe,Lancs. Doors 7pm,bell time 7.30pm. Tickets £15 for ringside,£10 adults,£8 children,£32 for a family. Box office number,01524 582803

Nigel McGuinness out with torn left bicep

Posted on 31 October 2007 by Wrestling News

ROH’s Gabe Sapolsky has released a statement via the official ROH message board concerning their ROH World Heavyweight Champion Nigel McGuinness:

“I just got off the phone with Nigel McGuinness and there is good and bad news. The bad news is that Nigel has a torn left bicep. The good news is the doctors think with some rest that he will not need surgery and that it will heal by “Final Battle” weekend at the end of December. Since Nigel has already made his first defence we will keep the belt on Nigel until “Final Battle” weekend. If Nigel is unable to compete by the end of December then we might have to make a move with the belt.

Nigel wants to send his apologies for not being able to compete this weekend. I have to admit that it was a hard conversation with him. Let me assure you that there is nothing in the world that Nigel wants more than to be able to give you great World Title matches this weekend. He has worked his entire life to get to this spot and this is just terrible luck. However,it is for the best that Nigel uses this time to heal so he can be 100% when his World Title reign resumes. Nigel will be available for autographs before both the Philly and NYC events this weekend.

We apologize for the lineup change. We will have something posted soon with revised lineups for this weekend and huge news about “Final Battle” weekend. Thank you for your understanding during these difficult circumstances. We assure you that we will deliver two epic events this weekend. Thank You”.

McGuinness has only recently won the ROH World Championship ending the eight month reign of Takeshi Morishima on 6th October 2007.  He has so far defended the title once against Jay Briscoe on 21st October 2007. All at BritishWrestling.co.uk wish Nigel a safe and speedy recovery.

VPW To Continue All Japan Deals after Successful Tour

Posted on 04 March 2007 by Wrestling News

Varsity Pro Wrestling promoted their first tour back since the back injury suffered by The UK Kid back in late August. The tour of the south coast, which was headlined by former WWE star DLo Brown and All Japan standout SUWAMA,included a night at the Exmouth Pavilion with a sell-out 450 fans in attendance. Off the back of this tour there is also a strong business relationship between VPW and one of the biggest promotions in the world,All Japan Pro Wrestling. After his February tour,SUWAMA commented:- I was extremely happy with my stay of UK and the way I was treated by the public,by Varsity and by Varsity students,I am looking forward to returning in the summer and hope the audiences take to me as well as they did this time. VPW have commented that All Japan have stated that, after poor dealings earlier this year with other UK companies, they are happy to swap wrestlers with VPW as they have complete confidence in the VPW product and VPW staff and front office. VPW will soon be announcing their tour dates for April which will once again include top wrestling action. FWA News Update

Posted on 01 March 2007 by Wrestling News

FWA v WAW British Inter-Fed Cup rematch,Brookside v Storm signed for FWA War On The Shore on Saturday April 7 The latest FWA v IPW:UK news from inside the FWA camp A new match signed for FWA’s planned celebratory show in Sudbury on March 31,once we beat IPW:UK on March 25 and put them out of business for good! FWA v WAW THE REMATCH! On May 28 2005,the FWA defeated WAW in Bournemouth to win the first ever British Inter-Federation Cup match. An FWA team of Doug Williams,Spud,Stixx and James Tighe beat Ricky Knight,The Zebra Kid,Zak Zodiac and Jason Cross to lift the Crusher Mason Trophy in WAW s own back yard. Almost two years later,WAW will have their chance for revenge this time on FWAs home turf of the Morecambe Dome when they challenge for the British Inter-Federation Cup at War On The Shore, this Easter Saturday April 7. FWA were supposed to defend the Cup,which they regained from All-Star Promotions on May 13 2006 at The Dome, against Summit Wrestling. But when this proposed match fell through WAW,who Summit had defeated in a final eliminator, stepped in to fill the void. The British Inter-Federation Cup committee said it was only fair to sanction the match because WAW have never received a rematch against FWA since May 2005. As you might expect,WAW will be captained by the founding father of the company and of the Knight Dynasty,Rowdy Ricky Knight. As of yet Knight, who had a famous feud with his own son The Zebra Kid in the FWA in 2004 and 2005,has not announced who he will select to form his team. As you know,FWA will be captained by The Pukka 1 Darren Burridge but who else will form the FWAs four-man team is very much open to debate. Firstly, there is so much uncertainty surrounding the future of the FWA ahead of Final Frontiers on March 25. And if you take a look at the members of Team FWA who won the Cup against All-Star,none of them will be available on April 7. The Wonderkid Jonny Storm will be otherwise engaged challenging Robbie Brookside for the British Heavyweight Title,Stevie Knight is on the injured list,Spud is off the FWA roster due to his loyalty to IPW:UK and Hade Vansen is suspended. So who exactly will FWA boss Greg Lambert pick to defend the honour of FWA,and the British Inter-Federation Cup,at War On The Shore 3? Stay tuned to find out. The rules for British Inter-Federation Cup matches are as follows. There will be four members of each team, four singles matches and a final survivor elimination match will decide the Cup. Each singles match will be fought over a 15 minute time limit. Two points for a win and one point each for a draw. The winning team of the elimination match will receive two points for every surviving member. WAW must win outright,an overall draw means FWA will retain the Cup. Meanwhile, tickets have gone on sale for FWA War On The Shore 3 Easter Saturday Showdown at British Wrestlings Home The Morecambe Dome,on Saturday April 7. Remember FWA Gold Rush was a complete sell-out so please book your tickets early to avoid disappointment. They cost 15 for front row,10 for adults,8 for children and 32 for a family ticket. Doors 7pm,bell time 7.30pm. The Morecambe Dome is on Marine Road Central,Morecambe,Lancashire This show will feature Robbie Brookside v The Wonderkid Jonny Storm for the British Heavyweight Title, and Team FWA (captained by The Pukka 1 Darren Burridge) v Team WAW (captained by Rowdy Ricky Knight) for the British Inter-Federation Cup! Greg then told this website that whoever is picked to face Martin Stone will be given instructions not only to beat the so-called Guvnor, but injure him and take him out altogether. The idea appears to be to ensure that Stone is far from 100% when he squares off with Shane at Final Frontiers on Sunday March 25 at Orpington,in a match where the losers promotion will cease to exist. SUDBURY NEWS A three-way Falls Count Anywhere match has been signed for FWA And Then There Was One at Sudbury Sports Centre,Sudbury in Suffolk,on Saturday March 31. The Wonderkid Jonny Storm v The Pukka 1 Darren Burridge v The Essex Bad Boy Paul Tyrrell will be a rematch from a chaotic streetfight brawl at the last FWA Sudbury show in August 2006,when Tyrrell emerged victorious. There is plenty of history between these three Essex boys so expect further carnage on March 31! This show also features Robbie Brookside defending the British Heavyweight Title and RQW Womens Champion The Jezebel Eden Black defending against Jade. Tickets are now available to purchase via The Sudbury Sports Centre in Suffolk and are priced at 15 for front row,10 for adults and 8 for children. These tickets will also soon be available through a ticket hotline and website so please keep checking www.frontierwrestling.co.uk for details.

1stopwrestling exclusive: Flash Barker's in ring return announced

Posted on 21 February 2007 by Wrestling News

Phil Flash Barker has been making an impact in the ring as of late, not wrestling, however as a referee for Premier Promotions. On Monday, while refereeing for Premier Promotions in Worthing,Flash got a little more involved than planned during the Battle Royale,at the end of the show. The Battle Royale was down to just Robbie Brookside ,Karl Krammer and Kris Kay. After Kris Kay was eliminated,he felt he should assist Karl Krammer in attacking Robbie Brookside. As a result,Flash Barker, threw the Battle Roayle out. Barker got into the ring where he was attacked by Kay and Krammer. The rest of the roster of the show, came to the aid of Barker. Barker got on the mic,and I said I might not be the best referee about, but there is one thing that I do well and that is fight! For one night only I will come out of retirement and take on Karl Krammer and Kris Kay in a tag match The match is set to be Flash Barker and Robbie Brookside Vs Karl Krammer and Kris Kay on an up and coming Worthing card. Keep tuned in to 1stop and the Premier Promotions website for more details.
