I am the daughter of Dennis Millar, a.k.a Diamond Shondell, and just thought I would post this in case I come across any fans! I have just been trying to find anything I can on my dad online, including old pictures, videos and stories.
Apparently it is rumoured he is living in the states or something now, but he is still in Northern Ireland, happy and well, and would love to hear from anyone who would like to swap memories and stories! He is still the 007 lookalike, probably even more so now, and is still as funny as ever. I am incredibly proud to be his daughter.
If anyone knows of any other websites, etc he may be on I would be very grateful. Thanks alot!November 30, 2013 at 11:31 pm #39476
If your heart stops beating, you’re half a dozen times more likelyto die in some parts of the U.S. and Canada than in others. Your odds are worst living in Alabama, where only 3% of cardiac arrestpatients treated by emergency responders survive to hospital discharge. That’s half a dozen times worse odds than in Seattle, where EMT treatment preventscardiac arrest death 16.3% of times. “We were surprised by what size the differences were betweenregions,” study leader Graham Nichol, MD, MPH, from the University ofWashington, Seattle, says inside a news release. Unless you live in Alabama, there isn’t any cause for celebration. Only 4.6% ofpeople in North America who suffer cardiac arrest survive. Just a little morethan?half of the people are treated by emergency responders, whichincreases chances of survival to eight.4%. The findings come from a study of 20,520 people that suffered cardiac arrestsfrom May 2006 through April 2007 in 10 large parts of the U.S. and Canada. Some 15,000 deaths could be prevented every year if the rest of NorthAmerica improved to Seattle’s level, Nichol and colleagues calculate. Strokes occurs when the heart stops beating effectively. It’sdifferent from the heart attack, in which the flow of blood to the heart isblocked?(although a heart attack can trigger stroke). CPR — cardiopulmonary resuscitation — can save the life of the person incardiac arrest. So can prompt treatment with the automated externaldefibrillator or AED, available today in many public places. But survival is determined by several factors. It all depends on prompt assistancefrom emergency responders, bystanders competent in CPR, defibrillatoravailability, emergency responders having advanced life support capabilities,as well as the very best hospital care. Within an editorial accompanying the study, University of Arizona researchersArthur B. Sanders, MD, and Karl B. Kern, MD, demand more resources for localemergency medical services, saying “It’s time for it to recognize the importanceof EMS systems for the health of a community.” “Each community needs to examine how well it really is treating cardiacarrest,” Nichol says. “It can get better results by training the publicto recognize and reply to medical emergencies, by helping the localorganized emergency response, or by improving hospital take care of thesepatients.” Sanders and Kern observe that too few cardiac arrest patients get aggressivetreatment from EMS responders. They call for a review of resuscitation rules inlight of the latest improvements in resuscitation science. Cardiac Arrest Varies by Region It isn’t just survival that differed across the continent. For example, forevery 100,000 residents, Dallas has 159 cardiac arrests; but Portland has just77.5. Out-of-hospital cardiac event is fatal 96.9% of times in Alabama and91.8% of times in Seattle. Here are the survival rates for EMS-treated, out-of-hospital cardiac arrestin 10 areas in the Nichol study: Alabama: 3% Dallas: 4.5% Ottawa, Canada: 5.3% Toronto, Canada: 5.5% Pittsburgh: 7% Milwaukee: 9.7% Vancouver, Canada: 9.7% Portland: 10.6% Iowa: 11% Seattle: 16.3% The study continue through 2010. Barack Obama has regained the slim lead inside the polls he’d held steadily through the summer, and with the market crisis dominating news coverage, key electoral trends again seem to favor the Democrat. While John McCain briefly moved ahead by around 5-percentage points following the Republican convention at the beginning of this month, Obama has now reestablished a 3-point lead inside the national Gallup tracking poll, which works his average margin in June and July. Other national polls show an identical improvement for the Democrat. The Washington Post-ABC News poll reported Wednesday that Obama has improved by 11 points within the last two weeks, and now holds a 52 to 43 percent advantage among likely voters. The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll shows Obama leading McCain by 5 points among registered voters, the same margin as in the most up-to-date New York Times/CBS News poll, which had McCain ahead by 2 points earlier this month. Obama has also increased his advantage on two critical indicators—which candidate voters believe would better handle the economy, and which would bring “change” to Washington—that McCain had closed the visible difference on following his party’s convention. And Democrats have broadened their lead in party affiliation and then too had tightened following McCain’s inclusion of Sarah Palin to the ticket and acceptance of his party’s nomination. The shift seems to be tied, at least simply, to the turmoil on Wall Street. Wednesday’s Washington Post-ABC poll found that for the first time this cycle, 1 / 2 of all voters view the economy and jobs because single most important issue—five times over cite the war in Iraq as well as a remarkable 13-point rise in the past two weeks. The CNN/ORC poll discovered that by nearly a two-to-one margin, 47 to 24 percent, voters believe Republicans “tend to be more responsible for the problems currently facing finance institutions and the stock market.” The poll also found that Obama now has a 10-point advantage, 53 to 43 percent, about the question of who’d better handle the economy, reestablishing a margin that was halved after the GOP convention. The latest Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll found Obama led by 12 points, 47 to 35 percent, among registered voters on who would “do a better job of handling this economic crisis next year.” And Gallup demonstrates 29 percent of voters say the financial crisis increases the likelihood they would vote for Obama, in comparison with 23 percent who repeat the same for McCain. Gallup’s authoritative weekly average of national polling shows that Obama’s improvement comes mostly from increased support among white voters. The Democrat has closed McCain’s 51 to 40 % advantage among white women from your week ago to 47 to 45 percent—an efficient tie. Among white men, Obama has improved from 33 to 37 percent within the same span, meaning his support among white voters of both genders, that have lagged, is now again using the modern norm for Democratic nominees.Gallup also reported Tuesday that Democrats have regained their double-digit party identity advantage, which in fact had narrowed to just five points after the GOP convention. Nearly half, 49 percent, of usa citizens now identify or lean Democratic, while only 39 percent identify or lean Republican. Following the GOP convention, the CNN poll discovered that Obama led by only 8 points about the question of which candidate “brings the kind of change the country needs.” Today Obama again features a 14-point, 54 to 40 percent, advantage. The CBS/Times poll reports that on the question of who’d “bring about real plunge to Washington,” voters prefer Obama 65 to 37 percent. That margin is roughly exactly the same among independent voters. It is a critical advantage as the Post-ABC poll shows just 14 % of respondents believe the country is “heading within the right direction”—and notes this level of pblic pessimism was last reached in 1973, in the midst of Watergate, the first oil crisis along with the dusk of the Vietnam War. And over six in ten voters today, based on the CBS/Times poll, believe the economy is merely “getting worse.” mulberry mini alexa

The abuse of Iraqi prisoners by American military guards is “a stain on our country’s honor and reputation” and can not deter America’s mission to bring democracy to Iraq, President Bush vowed Saturday. The Democrats used their weekly radio speech, and also the international uproar within the Iraq prison abuse pictures, to criticize the administration’s Iraq policy in general, reports CBS News Correspondent Tom Foty.In Iraq, the modern head of U.S.-run prisons in Iraq, Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Miller, said things are being done to prevent a repeat from the prisoner abuse, CBS News Correspondent Cami McCormick reported. In his latest condemnation in the U.S. abuse of Iraqi prisoners, the president called it shameful, shocking and disgraceful.”Such practices tend not to reflect our values. They may be a stain on our country’s honor and reputation,” Mr. Bush said.In their weekly radio address, the president again said those active in the abuse will be answer because of their actions, but, reports CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller, he was quick to provide that the incidents represent what of a few and, in their words, “our people in uniform work best of America.”Mr. Bush made no mention of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. He’s got rejected the calls for Rumsfeld’s resignation, saying Thursday that Rumsfeld would keep his job.”Our mission in Iraq continues,” President Bush declared.”We don’t have any intention of leaving the united states at the mercy of thugs and murderers. We’re determined to help build a free and stable Iraq, a nation at peace with its neighbors current world.”The Democrats chose former NATO commander and up to date presidential hopeful Wesley Clark to deliver their weekly response.”This is a mission in trouble,” the retired general said. “The facts are President Bush has produced mistake after mistake as commander in chief.”Clark praised the president for saying he’s sorry concerning the prison, “but apologies are not enough.”In Iraq, Miller promised no longer problems.”I will tell you that everything that goes on in Abu Ghraib today is at accordance with our procedures and policies, and is in compliance with all the covenants of the Geneva convention,” he told reporters.Mr. Bush indicated that punishment arising from the prison incident goes beyond the seven folks the Army Reserve’s 372nd Military Police Company already charged by the military.”We will learn all the facts and determine the complete extent of these abuses,” said Mr. Bush. “Those involved will probably be identified. They will answer for actions.” He said all prison operations in Iraq will likely be reviewed “to make certain that similar disgraceful incidents are never repeated.”As a symbolic gesture, said Clark, the notorious 280-acre Abu Ghraib prison should be dismantled. It is Iraq’s most visible indication of brutality under Saddam Hussein where his henchmen tortured and killed inmates opposed to the regime.Inquired about closing down Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad, Miller would only say interrogations will continue there until ordered moved elsewhere.Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld offered “my deepest apology” Friday to Iraqi prisoners abused by sadistic military personnel and warned that videos and photos yet to come could further inflame worldwide outrage.”It’s buying a good deal more terrible, I’m afraid,” he was quoted saying glumly in congressional testimony televised during the entire Arab world plus the United States. Thus far, no videos of abusive treatment are in the public. But still photographs, first aired the other day on CBS News’ “60 Minutes II” have spawned an internationally wave of revulsion containing damaged America’s image overseas and sparked a political storm in your house. He said the Iraqis have been mistreated will receive compensation.1 week after shocking photos appeared showing prisoners subjected to sexual humiliation, Rumsfeld said the procedure was “inconsistent with the values of our own nation. It was inconsistent with the teachings of the military … and it was certainly fundamentally un-American.”During a total of six hours of testimony inside the Senate and House, Rumsfeld sought to correct the damage done to American prestige aboard, to alleviate the anger of lawmakers caught off guard by the uproar also to shore up support for his or her own job among key individuals Congress. He said bluntly, “These events occurred on my watch. As secretary of defense, I will be accountable for them. I take full responsibility.”Rumsfeld said he “would resign in the minute” if he thought he could not be effective. But he brushed aside Democratic calls to step down, saying, “I wouldn’t normally resign simply because people come up with a political issue from the jawhorse.” mulberry purses outlet
The emergency government that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas installed after Islamic militants seized power over Gaza reaped its first windfall on Monday, using the European Union promising to bring back hundreds of millions of dollars in crucial aid.Israel as well as the U.S. also prefer to lift crippling economic sanctions for the Palestinians, now that President Mahmoud Abbas has formed a crisis government without Hamas, reports CBS News correspondent Robert Berger. Poisonous of dollars will now flow to the Abbas government enabling him to spend the long overdue salaries of civil servants and police.Meanwhile, a humanitarian crisis is looming in the Gaza Strip after last week’s violent takeover by Hamas. Israel supplies most of the food and medicine to Palestinians in Gaza, but the main border crossing has been closed since the civil war erupted the other day. So shortages are imminent, reports Berger. Israel is prepared to reopen the crossing to resume the flow of essential supplies, but there is no one to talk to since Hamas controls the border.”The real issue, I do believe, is what is Hamas likely to do in Gaza?” asked former U.S. Mideast peace envoy Dennis Ross on CBS News’ Early Show . “I think the Israelis haven’t any desire to go back into Gaza nevertheless they obviously have a lot of leverage on Hamas. They offer water, provide electricity.”In other developments:Abbas told President Bush in a telephone call Monday that now is the time to resume Mideast peace talks, an aide said. “The crisis in Gaza has pushed the Middle East to the forefront in the international agenda,” said CBS News foreign affairs analyst Pamela Falk. The administration is expected to announce it really is lifting the economic and diplomatic embargo as Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert arrives in Washington for talks with President Bush and top administration officials, reports CBS News White House correspondent Peter Maer. The U.S. is needing to support Abbas and his secular Fatah party under western culture Bank. Olmert is expected to repeat many of the requests that he made to the U.N. secretary general, including the creation of an international peacekeeping force between Gaza and Egypt along with the strengthening of the existing peacekeeping force in Lebanon, says Falk. A previously unknown militant Islamic group claimed responsibility Monday for any rocket attack on northern Israel. The self-proclaimed group, “the Jihadi Badr Brigades — Lebanon branch,” vowed in a statement faxed on the Associated Press in Beirut to keep attacks on Israel. Two rockets fired from Lebanon landed Sunday in northern Israel, causing damage but no casualties, from the first such incident since last summer’s war between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas. The authenticity in the group’s claim cannot be immediately confirmed.Several hundred Palestinians Monday were looking to escape Gaza, reports CBS News correspondent Richard Roth. They’ve become the newest Palestinian refugees, refused entry to Israel, now stuck in the border crossing waiting area. One woman said she’d preferably be shot than come back to her home in Gaza. An Israeli official estimates the volume of Gaza refugees could grow to a single.5 million people. The EU traditionally has become the Palestinian Authority’s largest donor, along with the reinstatement of aid, cut off after the Islamic Hamas movement took power 15 months ago, could signal the starting of the end to a crippling international boycott. On Sunday, Abbas hurriedly swore inside the new Cabinet, days after dissolving the unity government in response to the Islamic group’s violent takeover of the Gaza Strip. The rift leaves the Palestinians with two rival governments — a Fatah-allied government under western culture Bank and the Hamas leadership in Gaza. Abbas seeks peace with Israel, whereas Hamas is sworn on the Jewish state’s destruction.”Hamas doesn’t have excuse now. It is the sole party responsible. It can’t blame it on Fatah, the Israelis; they govern Gaza right now,” Ross told Early Show co-anchor Hannah Storm. “If Gaza deteriorates, if you find extraordinary impoverishment, if there’s no prospect of anything improving, you could see Hamas basically try to divert attention from their own failings by starting something with Israel.” no previous page next 1/2 cheapest ugg boots online
Egypt began slaughtering the roughly 300,000 pigs in the country Wednesday as a precaution against the swine flu virus even though no cases have already been reported here, infuriating farmers who blocked streets and stoned vehicles of Health Ministry workers who found carry out the government’s order. The measure was obviously a stark expression of the panic the deadly outbreak is spreading around the globe, especially in poor countries with weak public health systems. Egypt responded similarly a short while ago to an outbreak of bird flu, which is endemic to the country and possesses killed two dozen people. At one large pig farming center just north of Cairo, scores of angry farmers blocked the street to prevent Health Ministry workers in trucks and bulldozers from coming in to slaughter the animals. Some pelted the vehicles with rocks and shattered their windshields and also the workers left without killing any pigs.”We remind Mubarak that we are all Egyptians. Where does he want us to travel?” said Gergis Faris, a 46-year-old pig farmer in another a part of Cairo who collects garbage to give his animals. “We are uneducated people, just living day by day and trying to make a living, now if our pigs are extracted from us without compensation, how am i supposed to live?”Most inside the Muslim world consider pigs unclean animals and don’t eat pork because of religious restrictions. One Islamic militant Web page carried comments Wednesday saying swine flu was God’s revenge against “infidels.”Pigs are banned entirely in some Muslim countries including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Libya. However in other parts of the Muslim world, they are often raised by religious minorities who are able to eat pork.In Jordan, the federal government decided Wednesday to seal down the country’s five pig farms, involving 800 animals, for violating public health safety regulations. Half the pigs will probably be killed and the rest is going to be relocated to areas out of the population, officials said.In Egypt, pigs are elevated and consumed mainly by the Christian minority, which some estimates put at Ten percent of the population. Health Ministry spokesman Abdel-Rahman Shaheen estimated you can find between 300,000-350,000 pigs in Egypt.”It continues to be decided to immediately start slaughtering all the pigs in Egypt while using full capacity with the country’s slaughterhouses,” Health Minister Hatem el-Gabaly told reporters following a Cabinet meeting with President Hosni Mubarak.Global health experts said the mass slaughter of pigs is entirely unnecessary along with a waste of resources. But Egypt’s reaction was colored by its experiences with bird flu.Bird flu started sweeping through poultry populations across Asia in 2003 and then jumped to humans, killing more than 250 worldwide.Egypt was one of the countries hardest hit. In line with the World Health Organization, the world’s fourth highest death toll – after Indonesia, Vietnam and China – and also the largest outside of Asia. Who may have confirmed 23 deaths in Egypt and Egyptian authorities have reported three more deaths in recent weeks.Chickens used to roam every dusty street in each and every village across Egypt, and lots of of its city alleys too. But when the disease first appeared here in February 2006, 25 million birds were killed within weeks, devastating the poultry sector and also the family farmers. Chickens nearly all vanished from sight, slaughtered, abandoned or locked away by a population increasingly conscious of, and frightened by, the disease’s stubborn grip. The most up-to-date measure appeared meant to avert a similar panic.H1n1 virus is blamed for longer than 150 deaths in Mexico and U.S. nutritionists reported on Wednesday the first known death outside Mexico – a 23-month-old Mexican boy in Texas. It’s spread to Europe, Asia and Israel, which shares a border with Egypt.Experts suspect the swine flu virus, a strange new mixture of pig, bird and human winter flu, originated with pigs then jumped to humans which is now spreading through human-to-human contact. Health authorities have said you can’t contract the flu by eating pork.”It is unfortunate,” the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization Chief Veterinary Officer Joseph Domenech said of Egypt’s decision. “The crisis today is transmission from human to human. It’s got nothing to do with pigs,” he told The Associated Press. In the northern suburbs of Cairo Wednesday, health authorities killed 250 pigs and buried them. Angry farmers demanded compensation and provincial governors paid them around 1,000 Egyptian pounds (about $180) per head. The farmers wanted an official government decision to set a price for each pig slaughtered.Agriculture Minister Amin Abaza told reporters that farmers could be allowed to sell the pork meat so there would be no need for compensation.Swine Flu News Worldwide: View Larger Map grey bailey button uggsFebruary 25, 2014 at 1:46 pm #40074
