The thing that originally made the "King of the Ring" very special was that the winner had to fight and win, 3 times in the same evening.

You had the quarter finals, semi finals, and the final on one night. It was a one-night 8 man knockout tournament.

Change that format and it ain't the "King of the Ring" anymore! It is just another pointless _title_ to give someone.

Blame the Harts... .

But no I mean, 1993 had pretty much the defining night of Bret's WWF/E career (including the best match in company history with Mr. Perfect so says I) and 1994 was a solid showing from Owen to build him up further for SummerSlam. After that, there's nothing, really. And before anyone chips in, it was Austin's promo not the tournament itself... although the match with Mero was really quite cool.

That was the main purpose of KOTR was to elevate the worker to the next level for Summerslam as Royal Rumble did for Wrestlemania as it did for Brock Lesnar.

Funny enough I recently saw KOTR 1994 which was pretty good.

War games-one of the last good innovations to come out of WCW. It was a great match and often could be used as a simultaneous blow-off to older feuds and an ignition for newer programs.

I think it's a shame Vince bought WCW because there is no major competition anymore to make WWE raise their game.
