Opinions of Big Daddy 1 Year, 1 Month ago
This goes out to all the workers from the golden era of British Wrestling.

When I was a kid, I fell for it, I loved Big Daddy, I couldn't wait for his matches to come on and for him to defeat the bad guys.

Now, I'm a lot older, I've read up on him and now realise that he, was a bit of a git, to put it politely.

To anyone who has ever worked with him, or appeared on the same card as him, or even met him. What was he like? How different was he to his on screen persona. How much influence did he have over the wrestling and results of those days? Could he, perhaps, be compared to what people have said about WWE's Triple H?

Thanks

- ES

I don't know why people paint Big Daddy as such an ogre and the man who killed wrestling on TV, is Steve Davis painted as the man who killed snooker on TV ?
As a fan and somebody who met him and his wife on several occasions through selling his photos and souvenirs at the hall he never ever refused an autograph request or a photo and was always perfectly polite to me. I can't understand your hostility to him and why do you call him a git ?
As for his ring performances , it is obvious they deteriorated greatly over the years but so did Mick McManus and many others who topped the bill for too long but they never faced the criticism Big D does.

The git thing was the opinion that came across after reading up on him. This is why I am asking those who actually met him to get a real critique of him.

Purely as a fan and a autograph hunter there were a lot worse than Big Daddy in my dealings.

A lot of fun and a good gimmic but went on too long in my view. The Big D idea should've lasted no more than 3 years in my view. Badly handled and later matches turned in farces.

At the time, I enjoyed him immensely. When I saw him live, he could really stir up an audience.

In retrospect, he ain't up too much. I don't think I'll ever look back at him with rose tinted glasses, but I respect that he played a major role in British Wrestling.
