New British Wrestling Board of Control? 4 Years, 4 Months ago

According to a message posted on the Dropkixx board on the Wrestling Furnace Picture Gallery [new site], the FWA intend to set this up-as the successor to Lord Mountevans?-and issue licences to wrestle et al. Does anyone have more information on this? Will it, for example, protect and promote proper British Wrestling or is it just a gimmick to give some spurious legitimacy to copycat US "grappling" entertainment?

Unfortunatly you can't self covern yourself, if the FWA and or Dropkixx ran it, then its biased into itsself. In other words who controls them?

If all the exisiting promotions (not wrestlers) met and voted in a board of control then this would be a great step forward.
Regional representatives could be set up to cover all of the promotions in that region.
Having a unified board of control would not stop promotions from bringing in new talent, but would help stamp out rouge promotions.
Lets say, you are a promoter and some guy decides that they want to start up and promote in one of the halls that you have been running. What can you do about it? Nothing
But if there was a board of control and they said that any wrestler who worked on this show would not work for any of its members then wrestlers might think twice about it.
Any board of control must be independent of any one promotion though and be seen as the last word or it will never work.

Ive set this up as a discussion before.
Realistically any Board would have to be "great and the good" driven, to ensure its independence. Representatives of wrestlers, promoters yes, But in a minority.
Otherwise it is only a front, with no realistic powers.
But as discussed before, what is wrestling??? Not a sport, its entertainment.. So who would oversee it????
We need a high level wrestling mark to come forward here (Im only a district councillor, not high enough).
And how could it penalise anyone who chose to ignore it??
Etc, etc, etc...........

its entertainment
Not according to Equity, they don't recognise wrestling as entertainment.

I suspect this whole thing is something that's already been discussed on the 'what's wrong' thread, at the time of writing (17:34 on Friday 23rd) still on page 1 of this Forum. I have a strong opinion on what should be done, which I posted in that thread.
