Martin was indeed very nervous on his eary shows but learned quickly from Billy Graham my first recollection was on a bill at houldsworth hall manchester for Jack Cassidyafter my bout i watched the after the interval bouts and watched Skull then as bad boy steve young cause a near riot i remember thinking all that peroxide will ruin his hair, but what a worker. Last bout was pat Curry versus haystacks didnt last long but how the crowd were in awe of this colossal man.Unlike Shirley he actually looked menancing.Talking of pat or pete Curry dont think i have seen any mention of him on the forum, great guy and a stalwart on the northern scene and great sense of humour.
Thanks for such kind comments folks about the Stax tribute. I'll continue to add to it as and when photos / info become available. I'm off on holiday but if nobody does this before I get back I'll post a couple of screen caps of King Kendo during the Battle Royal. Good old Bill Clarke eh ? I wonder how many people thought Kendo Nagasaki was a King Kendo tribute act LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm searching for videos / pics of Haystacks on his overseas tours. If anybody has got some stuff from the USA, Canada or even further afield I would be delighted to hear from you...
Here's to more Stax and indeed more of everybody when TWC get their new ITV Sport footage in September.
At long last, a photo of Bill Clarke as King Kendo:
Pity it's only a side-profile so we can't see that absurdly wide helmet he had on.
Somewhere out there, someone wants the grille on their electric heater back. A front-facing shot of him in his full gear (ventilator-grill mein, red cape, short sword) would be much appreciated.
Also anything of him with his black mask with more & thinner stripes than Naggers's and a vicious sadistic sneering look in his eyes (this being a big difference between Clarke's _style_ of Heeling and the real Nagasaki's more sinisterly alienated brand of villainy)
