TWC- The Wrestling Channel 5 Years, 4 Months ago
By now the net has exploded with talk about The Wrestling Channel. A story Chris Hatch broke here on May 29th 2003...

"We have been given the following information regarding a new television station to be set up on Sky Digital. The station, running from a home_base_ in Ireland, hoped to be running before the year is out – and September is a date that has been suggested. It will run on Sky Digital as an independent station. There will be no WWE shown, and that includes the libraries they hold of WCW and ECW.

Various promotions have already agreed for their libraries to be shown. These include Ring Of Honor, Combat Zone Wrestling, Xtreme Pro Wrestling and Ohio Valley Wrestling. There are also some old shows from the 80’s. From the UK it has been confirmed that Frontier Wrestling Alliance and Irish Whip Wrestling will be shown, while it has been confirmed that this is NOT who NWA-UK Hammerlock have a deal with. Japan will also be featured, with New Japan and Noah already signed up. There are also talks with a Mexican promotion about showing their footage. There will also be more promotions announced at a later date".

Now the question is, we have an idea of what will be on it, what do you all think should be on it, and what do you think about FWA being on it? How can FWA use this to raise the bar and profile of British wrestling?

I reckon they should have more British wrestling. FWA will probably use it to mak emoney as the fan _base_ will increase and I also think they will try and be the British version of the WWE

I won't be watching FWA, or most of the channel. It seems they're more interested in that which coems cheapest rather than providing the best channel they can. I mean, if the talk is correct, then we'll get CZW, FWA etc... basically, shallow indy spot monkey crap. It also seems like the Japanese stuff, New Japan and NOAH, will be their clipped TV-Asahi and NTV (respectively) weekly shows rather than say, New Japan's "Complete Edition" or NOAH's "DiColliseo" (which shows full, or near-enough full, shows). Now, if they really wanted to make the channel interesting for the serious fans, instead of getting current NOAH (which is full of slow boring crap like Izumida, Rikioh, Inoue etc.) from Nippon TV, why not get the old All Japan shows (which Nippon own, not All Japan, and as such can't broadcast their own old footage on their shows) and start them from around 1989 when the company really hit it's stride? Why not mix it up further and dig out some RINGS or UWFi? Because if the channel is going to be dominated by indy crap, it's going to get old, and boring, very very quickly.

FWA and NWA-UK should both have live weekly tv spots on the show. They should be trying to evolve to the next level now, which is live tv wrestling and this channel will provide the chance for that. It will also improve wrestling in the Uk,since TV brings money and the actual wrestlers them selves could earm alot more.

Its a shame theres no TNA on the show, because they are realy good. I download there matches online and I have a huge libery of TNA matches on my computer. They have certainly been more entertaining then the WWE in recent months.

I have read that NWA:TNA is going to be shown on this wrestling channel. The only downside of this channel is that we're gonna have to subscribe to it (hope it's not too expensive).
