The Golden Grappler Trophy and other TV tournaments 5 Years, 4 Months ago
Does anyone have a complete list of the winners of teh Golden Grappler trophy winners? I know Kid McCoy won it once!

Also I remember Alan Kilby winning the anniversary trophy for wrestling on TV. He beat Alan Dennison.

Does anyone else have any more info?

CLASSIC!!! Respect is due!!!

Retford 11/6/88
Ian McGregor bt Barry Douglas
Retford 18/6/88
Skull Murphy bt John Elijah
Liverpool 2/7/88

Walthamstow 23/7/88

Radcliffe 6/8/88
Mister X bt Johnny Kidd

(second round)

Dartford 27/8/88
Ian McGregor bt Richie Brooks
Dartford 3/9/88
Greg Valentine bt Mister X
Pete Roberts bt Skull Murphy
Bridlington 10/9/88

(semifinals)

Pete Roberts drew Terry Rudge
Bridlington 8/10/88
Greg Valentine bt Ian McGregor

It looks pretty much complete to me. Roberts-Rudge = double elimination. Valentine-McGregor semi upgraded to a final. Only Alan Kilby not accounted for - presumably he dropped out which was why Terry Rudge got a bye into the semifinals.

David it was never announced as the final but what a surprise Greg Valentine winning it ! The same as when Valentine won the Albert Hall trophy in 1984.
I remember Skull Murphy winning the Grand Prix belt in 1984 and 1985 beating Johnny Wilson in one final but I can't remember the exact details.
There was also a Golden Gown which was in 1984 I think with Vic Faulkner beating Kid Chocolate in one semi and Syd Cooper beating Ian McGregor in the other with Vic Faulkner winning the gown in a second match after a drawn final at Nottingham.
Also most Summers there were tournaments on ITV like the Jolly Fishermans Trophy at Skegness for a china Jolly Fisherman figure and a regular Southport KO tournament for some sort of trophy. The final Southport KO tournament in 1987 was won by Marty Jones beating Skull Murphy, Jones beat Bernie Wright the week before and Murphy beat Jamaica George on the same programme.

Jim Breaks won a chocolate Easter Egg at a tournament taped for an Easter Monday Bank Holiday Sports Special in about '81.

There were quite a few other elimination tournaments - some of them for storyline reasons. The Daddy-Kendo II match was an offshoot of a late '75
Daddy/Kendo/Marino/Man Mountain Moran tourney.

More famously in September 1977, Big Daddy won a four man knockout tournament over Giant Haystacks, Tony St Clair and Rex Strong. Afterwards, Haystacks hit Daddy with a chairshot, triggering off their long-running feud.

There was also a tag tournament in 1982 with Fit Finlay/Skull Murphy beating Alan Kilby/Steve Logan in one semi and Johnny and Pete Wilson beating Kwik-kik Lee and Clive Myers in the other. Finlay and Murphy beat The Wilsons the following week to win the tournament.
Also there were the team tournaments usually with Big Daddy's TV All-stars coming out on top and in the early 80's The Jets had a bit of a run too.
