If face vs face matches were so good then how come so many heels are created these days and do become successful e.g Regal. Regal was already massively succesful everywhere else in the world as a no-nonsense scientific wrestler and only ever became a comic-heel in WCW because they didn't know what else to do with him. In any case America rarely has face vs face bouts, especially not clean friendly bouts. The American business rates the ability to work a crowd higher than actual wrestling ability. so most bouts over there are face vs heel.
It's a particular feature of the entertainment-orientated, crowd-working emphasis the USA's wrestling culture has taken since the 1950s onwards. As are the increasingly looser interpretation of the rules and, most obviously, the eschewing of "human chess" technical matwork in favour of a "high impact" _style_ (features of which include vast amounts of rope-bouncing and each move being performed as a spot unto itself)
and how can you say if i cant sit through a tape of 3hr clean british wrestling im not a fan period
I just did, so there!
How can anyone call themselves a
WRESTLING fan if they can't watch undiluted no-nonsense
WRESTLING?
(And don't give me any "no-one wants to watch it" crap - British wrestling's great triumph was that, via ITV, it educated millions of the public to become connosieurs of serious technical wrestling. Made people like George Kidd and Mike Marino into household names. So you see it
can be done.)
It need not necessarily be British wrestling tho. Equally, clean bouts from other European countries (during their old-school eras), clean mat-_base_d Puro bouts,
old clean bouts from Mexico
before it _meta_morphosed into aerial Lucha in the mid-late 60s, even old newsreel footage of great scientific bouts from America in the 20s/30s/40s/early 50's.
