Kent was truly the John Peel of wrestling announcers in a profession overflowing with Tony Blackburns and Dave Lee Travises.
He was probabaly the only announcer worldwide of the last 40 years or so to make a real effort to cultivate in his audience a real appreciation of good wrestling technique.
As such he contributed massively to the real mainstream respectability golden-era British Wrestling had - a respectability the concurrent Territories-Era US wrestling never had across the pond.
What's more, his work was a demonstration of just how broadly the Public Service ethos of BBC founder Lord Reith - "To Educate, Entertain and Inform" (an ethos ITV once shared but few programme-makers would nowadays recognise) - could be applied. Even to wrestling.
Not just wrestling, but the whole of the media could do with more of his kind. RIP Kent.

I just never could imagine anyone else commentating on the wrestling on ITV. He to me was simply the best sports commentator bar none.

A great voice which, at the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, was synonymous with British wrestling. RIP Kent.
