Re: Ring Wrestling Stars 5 Years, 3 Months ago
Some of Daddy's matches in the late 70's & early 80's were entertaining (if only because of the massive heat, watch Daddy Vs Quinn for an example) If he had stepped down then, then he would have proberbly been remembered in much better ways

I also seem to remeber that a visiting american wrestler got fed up with Daddy and shot on him in the ring, can anyone shed any light on this.

Cheers
John M

I believe it was The American Deam Machine a.k.a. Crazy Chris Colt.
It was during a bout to be televised, and I think it was Dale Martin's who requested that it should not be shown.
Needless to say, ADM never worked for Dale's again, but Bian Dixon did very nicely by pushing him as ' The wrestler who was banned from TV'.

In response to the last post, the guy who came over from the states was Chris Colt who used the ring name The American Dream. He was a bit of a weirdo and would not play ball with Daddy and knocked him about a bit.It made Daddy look that bad that it was taped but never shown on World Of Sport. In some of the earlier Daddy tags i was his partner and then later on i was his opponent but in some of the tags the matches would get some heat. The novelty wore off when people got bored with the same match night after night.Perhaps he might have lasted longer if he had gone down to somebody like Haystacks and then have return matches all around the country to keep it fresh. 8)

I've read that in an early heel persona Big Daddy (or whatever he was called then) was a fine wrestler. Is this true, or just spin from his supprters?

They say that out of the three brothers that wrestled Max,Shirley and Brian it was Max who was the most talented. His career was cut short by injury and so he went into promoting.Brian became a referee and mc and the rest is history with Shirley. When Shirley was a heel he was not a bad worker and had some good matches with Nagasaki and the top heavyweights of the day. 8)
