Don't get me wrong, the traditional _style_ is impressive if you're looking at technique, skill, etc but its never as exciting as the modern American or Japanese _style_ thats why you could never bring it back on a national level like it was in the 80's as it would only draw a small interest from certain fans and nostaligic middle aged ones. Basically I'm saying its not my idea of "pro wrestling" entertainment to put it alot less harshly. Not my prefered _style_.

Love this thread, being a good old fashioned Blue eye who works under a thermal myself.

Always thought the term was Blue Faces and Villains though. Blue Eye is just as cute I suppose.

Has anybody read "Blue Blood on the Mat"?? Its a class book, abotu wrestling a LONG time back (yes, even before Tim Park was born) and is totally inspirational. A lot of info pertaining to dates, evolution of _style_s and practices back in those days. Well worth a look.

A fair amount of which should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Farmer Burns did *not* introduce submissions, they were always a part of Lancashire wrestling.

Oakley's calim to have invented mud matches is a laugh (they were doing it a good couple of years earlier in Texas, following the arrival of Asian wrestler Bhu Phinda) - the mention of traditional Hindu wrestling is an indicator than Sir Athol knew this perfectly well.

And, of course, he just had to claim All-In to be a shoot - deliberately misinterpreting the rolling counter to wrist-lever in order to blast Joint Promotions.

Always thought the term was Blue Faces and Villains though.

As I understand it, those are the standard terms used at shows taking place high up in the pennines in January in unheated halls. Thermals in these situations are optional, but advised.
