Apologies for stating the obvious. But Andre and haystacks did get it on. I remember seeing a picture of them squaring up.

In Australia in tha late '70s

Marty Jones faced 'Cowboy' Bret Hart in the early 80's when Joint had a hook up with Stampede. I have that one on tape somewhere. Jones won 2 scores to one.

Semifinal for the World Mid-Heavyweight _title_, the first time Jones won it.

Nowhere near as good as Owen's bouts in Britain/Europe. Bret wrestled the bout in a very North American _style_, constantly hitting the ropes, forcing Jones to do the same. (To be fair, Bret was also doing a "Yank who can't understand British rules" heel gimmick). "Bronco" Owen however was a big fan of the British/European _style_ and adapted his work to blend in perfectly.
