2000 is quit a lot

just not compared to WWE

Makes the 120 odd in bournemouth

but in the US apart from the big indies the really small (city wide) promoters R lucky to get 25 people

Look at what foley says in his book about armouries

I was in a show with 8 in the audience. Do I win a prize?

FWA have promoted in Wales , in fact they are in Newport on 21st August.

I seem to recall All Star drawing 1200 earlier this year but the venue escapes me.

Its an interesting point , John , about attendences --some people think that a small turn out = a bad show , and we all know thats not the case.

What would you say the fan _base_ of british wrestling is? ( I'm not including WWE or American touring shows) I believe its down to between 5,000 to 7,000 dedicated show goers across the UK. You tend to see a lot of the same faces at the big shows. I think if you average it all out 200-300 per show is about right. ( Even on this thread we've gone from 2,400 to eight) ( had to spell eight cos if you do eight ) you get a smiley face -----i'm getting good at this putor lark)

Good topic though, keep the faith , Dusty.

Just to add a little into the pot here.

Size is not everything (as the actress said to the bishop!!)

When calculating profit, some smaller venues when filled will make a greater profit than larger ones.

Normally the larger venues like to charge over proportional rent and come with loads of hidden extras that you only find out about when you get the final break down along with the cheque.

The location of the venue is also something that has to be taken into consideration, it is more expensive to advertise in a London newspaper than it is in a Glasgow newspaper and again it is cheaper to advertise in a smaller regional paper.

So large crowds do not mean much in the promoting business. Obviously every promoter wants to run big shows with capacity crowds, but it is often better in a smaller venue.

I can beat the 8 people too. I once did a show for a local Scottish promoter with 7 people in the audience. 3 of them had not paid to come in either. Stars on the bill included Klondyke Kate, Robbie Brookside, Shane Stevens (no, the show had nothing to do with him!), myself and a few other Scottish wrestlers that I bet none of have every heard of.

I agree with wrestlingdata_base_. It looks better and is better profit wise if you sell out a smaller areana than to half fill a big areana. By the way wrestlingdata_base_, when was the show when only 7 people turned up and why was the crowd so small??

The show was in a little village just outside Fort William. Robbie, Shakey Klondyke and myself had all travelled up from Liverpool, I can even remember some of the matches.

Spinner Mckenzie v Robbie Brookside
Shane Stevens v Robbie Brookside
Spinner Mckenzie v Klondyke Kate

The 4 people who had paid to come in got a full show and loved every minute of it. We got paid and enjoyed doing the show.
