Anyone know anything of these British pomotions? 6 Years, 5 Months ago

I recall reading about a promotion called BWF in a Briitsh wrestling magazine in the early 1990s that had Jamie Reeve as its heavyweight champion. Jamie as I'm sure many of you are aware won the World's strongest man contest, first Brit after Geoff Capes I think. If anyone saw him wrestle was he any good? They also had a guy called The Model Dale Preston and a black wrestler with his hair like Mr T wrestling as Big T or something similar. I think they promoted up north. Seemed from the pictures like they drew a fair crowd to their shows.
Also anyone catch any episodes of Jackie Pallos WAW promotion? I saw a couple on Central late night and back then, (I was about 12 I might add) I was impressed. I have later learned that Screensport showed a few episodes, though I also read somewhere that they only made 6 episodes and they were filmed at the Derngate in Northampton.
Any info would be appreciated!

I didn't know Pallo used the WAW name at that time. Nothing to do with Ricky Knight's company btw. Pallo's "new _style_" promotion was awful, the FWA of the early '90s. Loads of bad American _style_ wrestling and none of them knew any holds. Arguably the first ever "New School" promotion. It cost him £80,000 to make those TV episodes and he only got £15,000 from Central for them.
There were two BWFs in British wrestling history. I believe the one you've got hold of there was an alliance between Brian Dixon (All Star), Orig Williams (Reslo on S4C) and some indies. Basically a talent-swapping deal.
Much earlier on in 1958 after Assirati was sacked as British Heavyweight champion for shooting on people left right and centre and flatly refusing to job to anyone, he still laid claim to the _title_ and a group fo indies led by Paul Lincoln formed the BWF and adopted his claim to the British heavyweight championship - until they found out the hard way why Joint had given Assirati the boot. So in 1960 while he was on the shelf with an injury they dumped him and set up a tournament which was won by "Blond Adonis" Shirley Crabtree (the future Big Daddy) Assirati was furious and spent the next several years turning up at BWF shows threatening to get in the ring and rip Crabtree apart, until eventually in '66, a traumatized big Shirley fled the wrestling business with his tail between his legs and didn't return until circa '72.

I also seem to remember some guy who posted on an internet newsboard promoted a show under the name of BWF - or was it BWA? Can't really remember, all I know is there was apparently some controversy about wrestlers payment and I'm sure they only ever promoted one show.

I rememder that WAW promotion. It wasn't that bad, there was about 2,000 on hand for it. They had a bloody awful Mummy gimmick though. Does anyone has tapes of it?

BWF, British Wrestling Federation was the name used by Orig Williams for many year, from the late 1960's to the present day. Around 1995 Shane Stevens also started using the name BWF, for his Peterborough _base_d promotion, which promoted mainly in Scotland but did major tours, some which took place and some that didn't. Spinner McKenzie once wrote a very damning internet report on this promotion and certain fraudulant activities - but they did hit the big time for a while with a major tour with Earthquake and other Americans. Made several fortunes and lost them by all accounts - but at the end of the day Shane Stevens was a man was prepared to put money into wrestling.
Jackie Pallo took over promoting in the mid 70's and promoted regular shows at Barnsley, Sheffield and Felixstowe among others, in league wth Brian Dixon, opposing the ruling Joint Promotions body. Later he got involved in a body building / wrestling type venture with John England (who was using the WAW name for a summer season at Great Yarmouth). That attracted TV sponsership but failed dramitcally by all accounts. Jackie Pallo was a promoter who cared for the fans and tried to give them what they wanted, not really succeeding financially unfortunately.
