Of course, this Friday 21st is the 16th anniversary of the TV screening of this show.
How do I recall this? 'Cos it was my 13th birthday that day (which makes me 29 on Friday!

). ITV were going to show a WWF tape with a Hogan vs Kamala headline bout that day, but fortunately the tape failed to reach England safely so this show was screened instead. (One can only assume the WWF tape was mistaken for a piece of old rubbish and was thrown over the side of the ship - hey, even sailors can have good taste!)
Needless to say, the Croydon show was an absolute corker and a really wonderful birthday present for me on the first day of my teenage years. Believe it or not, there were some total IDIOTS who wrote into TVTimes complaining about how the Hogan-Kamala bout had been scrapped in favour of this show and still hadn't been screened months later.
Like they'd have preferred to watch steroid-wracked sanctimonious tanker Hogan "wrestle" embarrasing flabby gimmick wrestler Kamala, rather than watch the UK's finest heavyweight team with the former Black Tiger #1 to take on the future Jushin Liger and a brilliant judoka-come-shooter These people would rather have watched a musclebound non-wrestler versus an obese non-wrestler rather than an all-time dream tag team matchup???
This is really all the evidence you need to see the utter crassness, stupidity and lack of taste of the late '80s "
Bigger Better Badder" devotees of "
Wild No-Holds Barred American Wrestling". And it's a searing indictment of PowerSlam that their editorial viewpoint derives from this philosophy.
