I want to reserch the history of British Wrestling. 6 Years, 3 Months ago
Where do I start? Is there any sites that cover such a thing? I wouldn't mind reading the history of Joint Promotions and its compeditors. I also wouldn't mind maybe getting a hold of some of the old school matches that went on in this time as I would like to study them. Anyone know?

Rob, when the full site of www.1stopwrestling.co.uk launches will will be able to document a lot of the questions you are asking. Please be patient as we finalise all the designs and management systems.

Until then why not check out Simon Garfields book "The Wrestling" - if you have read that just be patient with us.

It is all coming along!

Rob, may I recommend this excellent website:
http://members.fortunecity.com/furnacehot

**************************************************

Also if you can get to Birmingham City Centre Library, they have a full bound set of TVTimes, containing some absolutely amazingly good articles on British wrestling. There's an amazing two-part interview with George Kidd from Feb '77 and a couple of months later, there's an incredible interview with a then 17-year-old Tom "Dynamite Kid" Billington plus his trainer Ted Betley.

Also check out circa November 1980 when there was a special centre pull-out section on wrestling to commemorate 25 years of it on TV.

I believe there's also another set of bound TVTimes at Manchester City Centre Library and they've got them on microfilm at the National Newspaper Library in Colindale.

Really tho, somebody should compile all the wrestling articles from TV Times together and put them out as a book.

I for one can hardly wait for 1stopwrestling.co.uk to be completed! I am looking forward to it and keeping an eye on the proceedings.

'The Wrestling' by Simon Garfield is a great book, I've read it a couple of times. It covers everything from the very start of british wrestling, to the highest it got (did you know it was watched by more people in britain than WWF/WCW at there hight in the U.S?) and its fall from grace,. It even touches on U.S. wrestling, and the big Vince McMahon steroid trial.
Its definately worth the read, and gives you a great insite on 'how things used to be'.
