How many promotions in Ireland? 6 Years, 3 Months ago
I read a thread on another fan forum saying that there is a fed called 'Irish Wrestlers Union' in Ireland! This Lemon guy is saying that he is one of the 22 Irish wrestlers in the fed. I've never heard of them and he said that they have been going for 3 years?? I know that Irish Whip Wrestling debuted in Dublin last June, but thats about it. Can anyone contribute?

Have there been any good wrestlers from Ireland, with the exception of Fit Finlay?

...there used to be many, the best apart from Dave would have been Rocky Moran, Bruce McDonald (superb lightweight),Johnny Howard a.k.a Rasputin and the late Dave Larsen to name a few.

And there was:
Jack "Flash" Davey (Irish Welterweight Champion)
Tony Stewart (Dave Finlay's student at Carrickfergus)
Lucky Gordon ...

And when Mighty John Quinn was WWA heavyweight champion in the early '80s, he defended against Giant Haystacks in Claremorris, County Mayo and they had a televised contract-signing ceremony on Derek Davis's chat show "Davis at Large"

wow! how could I forget the big man from mayo? so sorry, stacks was the biggest name in my opinion in uk wrestling history. Jack flash Davey I saw just last night, he's Orig Williams referee now, still looks well.Tony Stewartwas a fantastic wrestler,Iflew to Belfast for a championship match at the Kings Hall a couple of years ago only to end in a draw after 20 mins, such was the interest in Tony in his homeland the capacity audience of 3000 + they demanded a rematch...Iflew back a week later and we gave them a match to remember, again 3000+ saw Tony pin me in the 19th. minute..Again he's a fantastic wrestler, a credit to the then Finlay Camp..

I didn't know that the Finlay's training school was pro, I always thought it was amatuer. Thanks for the info lads. Is James Davey the ref thats going bald with a grey moustache? What ever happened to Tony Stewart, I remember seeing hin last on the 'Battle of the Brits tape'?

Haystacks was actually English I think, his parents were from Mayo. Was Mighty Quinn Irish? What about a guy called Tony Kelly?

There is Irish Whip Wrestling which you can find at http://irishwhipwrestling.tripod.com

i just want to add that Giant Haystacks could of honoured his parents wishes and become a pianist, lucky for us all he became a pro wrestler, and a wrestler that will always be missed.

damn i still miss him, he was a spectacle to be seen. Unbelievable, a true ring giant...
