A large crowd of well over 100, (approx 150) were on hand to witness the first ever Dropkixx promotions show.
The MC for the evening for Frank Rimer The Referee was Tony Scarlo
Amongst the large crowd were FWA stars Alex Shane, Nikita and Dino Scarlo.
The Audience were also introduced to Wayne and Sarah Bridges.
Most of the matches would be contested under old _style_ british wrestling rulesa of rounda and 2 out of 3 falls
Match 1: Kristan Linnell Vs The Shiek Shah Hussein
The first EVER match of dropkixx promotions and what a way to start. Despite the perhaps tasteless gimmik of being a sheik from Iran, Shah Hussein managed to portray the image with taste.
The wrestling was excellent in this contest. Kristan playing very well to the crowd. Some craft reversal, and especially enjoyable fuull nelson sequence of moves that left the audience with no choice but to applaud.
The falls, whcih were perhaps slightly lost on the audience, came by some brutally impressive finishing manoveres.
Linnelll taking this match 2 falls to one, with an second jumping DDT move that the Shiek could not have kicked out of. This winning fall coming after a vicious F5 _style_ move that left Linnell shoulder pinned to the mat.
Match 2: Matt Crichton Vs Joe Hughes
A technical wrestling encounter that will make the likes of Jonny Saint and Marc Rollerball Rocco proud. The crowd were extremly vocal during this match, and rightfully so. I doubt whether many people in the crowd really uunderstood what "wrestling" was until this match. No flashy high spots, no catch phrases. Just two young lads, wrestling.
It would be unfair of me to try and describe the goings on of this match......to be very honest, i do not think i can do it justice. What i will say is that this match proved not only to me but to many doubters in the audience that British wrestling still has a place in todays society. Oh and by the way...Joe Hughes won.
Match 3: Martyn Harris Vs Leroy Kincaid
A heavyweight contest which lived up to the name. Both men gave some very hard strikes, with forearms and punches a plenty. Harris dominated early proceedings with his rule breaking and blatant disregard for the rules, being used to help him gain an early advantage, however this was all after Kincaid had scored the first and fastest pinfall of the night, with a fast sunset flip pin.
Harris fought back and managed to gain his first and second public warnings. Both of these were justified as referee Tony Scarlo had a job keeping Harris off Kincaid. Harris brutalised kincaid towards the end of the match and tossed him straight over the top rope, to the awaiting hard floor.
However it was Leroy kincaid who got the victory, via a disqualification when Harris floored refree Scarlo. These two have fourght before and from the loo on both there faces at the end of the match tonight...they will fight again.
Match 4: Mixed tag team contest: Ashe and Liz Pedder Vs Jorge Castano and Vicky Swain
Castano and Ashe starting off this bout, and it was these two who would be in the ring the majority of the time. Castano having to live with the "where's your visa" chants and the "you suck" chants at every available oppourtunity. Castano impressing with a fantastic display of suplex's that put Taz (ECW) to shame. In this 2 out of 3 falls contest, Castano scored the first pin, which was soon folowed by an Ashe sunset flip revesal for the equalising fall.
At 1 -1 it was the girls turn to impress, and Despite Liz pedder's best efforts, Vicky Swain kept finding a counter to everything she attempted. 2 acid drops were both countered superbly by Swain, however she was unable to block Liz Pedders, tornado DDT from the top rope and she scored her team the victory with the final fall. Winners..Ashe and Liz Pedder
Interval...A raffle with half decent prizes and a touching introduction for a young man at ringside who dropkixx helped realise his dream of stepping foot in a wrestling ring and even wrestling (and pinning....) doug williams a few weeks back. Despiote being in a wheelchair, the young man who asked to remain nameless had a fantastic evening and was delighted during the intervel to meet Alex Shane.....A truly inspiring moment.
Match 5: Dr Death Mel Stuart Vs The Exotic Baxter Burridge, accompanied by his mentor Vince Randell
This being the main event of the evening and it was a fanstatic scientific wrestling match. Psychologically flawless, this match would not have looked out of place during british wrestlings hey day. Mel Stuart, keeping a close hold on Baxters arm for the majority of the early rounds and forcing a submission out of him in round 3. However Burridge, came back in round 5 with a breathtaking hiptoss into a neck breaker combination to equalise the fall.
Baxter showing that he can work any _style_ here, as Stuart works a very slow _style_ of match that builds and builds.
The final fall came when burridge pinned Stuarts shoulders to the mat for the three count and the Vince Randell challenged Mel Stuart for the next dropkixx show, to be held in May.
Match 6: Ashley Horscroft Vs Charles Rhyss
Ashley, who is a high flying wrestler, was in a clash of _style_s match up here as he was faciung a legitimate british amateur champion (with gold medals to boot) in Ryhss. Ryhss dominated hitting some very impressive powerful moves such as a standing stalling suples and the perfect german suplex. However Ashley more than impressed with an impressive array of high flying moves such as a split legged moonsauly and the springboard spear, which nearly took both men out the ring.
It was however Rhyss who hi a devastating clothesline that knocked Ashley out cold and down for the 10 count, with finished an impressive debut for both men.
Match 7: The Artful Dodger, Scott Fraser Vs 'Flaming Red' Strudel
These two competitiors stole the show (pardon the pun Alex), with a complete display of wrestling, arial moves and psychology. With the fans clearly on his side, strudel took to the match in a professional manner, but it was not to be in the end thanks to a double cruizer (sp?) kick, which left his dazed and confused in the ring and left the match won by Frazer. However strudel did manage to pull off some fantastic moves, including a plancha to the outside, a invetive hurricanrana off the iringpost and some impressive counters and reversals during the early stages of the contest. Yet it was frazer who despite all of strudels hard work and effort managed to come out on top. His brutal strikes and kicks left the strudel with little chance and he too had a vast amount of wrestling skill in his tank.
The show ended with a fantastic contest and a great night was had by all that attended.
On a VERY PERSONAL note, i would like to say how proud i am of everyone from dropkixx wrestling school that took part on the show, from the wrestlers, to the ring screw. You have proved to me that there is still a place in thisa society for british wrestling and you have given me even more satisfaction to know that the last 2 years or so have been worth every second of it. I am truly proud of you guys and hope to see big, and i mean BIG things from EVERYONE.
