Re: Death to pantomine and tributes.... 6 Years, 2 Months ago

Starting from the 16th of November we will be running all of our shows as traditional British wrestling.

Bravo, Aaron! This is EXACTLY the _style_ of wrestling that has always come to mind whenever someone says "British wrestling". The rounds, the public warnings, etc. I like it, I applaud your decision and I encourage you all in it.

Its time for a change, and RBW/Wrestling UK in association with G N Promotions LTD plan on making the change on November 16th at the Southwell Leisure Centre, Southwell, Nottinghamshire.

You know, I've just been watching videos of Johnny Saint (again!)....Some of his matches against Fit Finaly, Marc Rocco, and some squeaky clean young lad called Brookside.....Fantastic stuff! No porn, no silliness ('cept Princess Paula, of course -- acceptable siliness) and the whole thing exuding an air of respectability and refinement. As well as bloody good wrestling, of course. Keep us advised on how things progress!

For more information on all of our shows visit

I shall indeed.

Straight away I'd just like to say that tribute/fake shows are really bad. Wrestlers who pretend to be other wrestlers are bad enough... resembling the backyard want-to-be, but promoters who promote these shows are even worse. Most of them don't even let on to an unsuspecting (and gullable) public that these "big names" are really who you expect them to be. You get a 5'10" Undertaker, who has a gut like he's had 30 years of constant beer drinking, who can't even wrestle and the moves and _style_ he has copied looks so unbelievably far from that of the real wrestler that you just feel like bringing a lawyer to the show with you. I can say that I have only ever been to one of these dreadful shows, and that was when I was a little kid in about '92 or '93 and I thought it was attrocious at the time and even more so now. Using established names really just isn't on...

As for pantimime... it's a necissary part of wrestling today. Its part of the diverse blend that is pro wrestling... and honestly that is the way that I like it. I think you need that blend of legitimate looking, technical wrestling, blended with your good old comedy, blending with showmanship, blended with your high impact and big moves.

I am a fan of technical wrestling, as I have said before. I am a fan also of many other aspects of wrestling. I can't help that... the fact is it entertains me, and it entertains many others (and as we have seen in another thread) people like Jack don't seem to be able to understand and comprehend this. Is it really that hard to understand that it brings just as much joy (if not more) to light up the face of some young kid (who may have not seen much wrestling before, let alone British) than to amaze a more mature fan with technical wrestling up to their eyeballs? Are you so one minded that you would both deprive those kids of that, and us of being able to do that?

Also... I train at MPWTC (for those of you that probably don't know, thats Midlands Pro Wrestling Training Centre - Run by Majik & Psycho Steve of NWA (UK) Hammerlock... also recognised by both Hammerlock and the IBF)... where we are train exceptionally well in the technical side of wrestling, by two wrestlers with a huge knowledge of technical wrestling. We spend so much time, going over and over this side of things. We are taught something legitimate for everything opponent assisted, we are taught shoot fighting and sombo _style_ and yes... we are also taught how to do big impact moves, but that takes up very little of our training time... a bit of fun to round of the serious side... because, yes it is fun both to do and see big, high impact moves such as powerbombs, ddt's (woohoo, Jake "The Snake" Roberts on tour with Hammerlock again) and what ever else (personally I am a very suplex orientated person and you won't see me hitting powerbombs or dvds... I like to suplex people... hey, it gives me a kick).

The fact that we have legitimate technical wrestling drilled into us so hard can be seen in most of our _style_s, but particually I must say in those like Coyote and Jekkel (prefering the Jap and Mexican _style_s) who are exceptional (despite their short careers) techniqual and they can do some stuff that amazes me, depite knowing them very well and training with them every week, as well as others. We are dedicated... and that was shown in our first public show at the Holbrooks festival in Coventry in August (which was two shows), where in the first show, Coyote fractured a bone in his ankle, in a high pace lucha libre match against Jekkel (by the way guys, this was a face vs face, good clean match) and he continued the match and then went on to do the rematch in the second show. And for that I respect him even more (one crazy SOB - loves wrestling and couldn't wait to be back training a soon as the _meta_l plate or whatever was taken out).

A degree of panimime works. A degree of technical wrestling works. Everything works for somebody. Its the fans that matter, so we cater for them. No fans, no promotion. Plain and simple.

Wolf,

For once mate i agreed with every thing you said,
I would just like to add one thing at the MPW show Wolf was talking about there was one match that every one of the locker room turned out to watch, no sadley it was not mine. It was Jesters the clown of MPW and Hammerlock, why because it was good clean fun.
The match it's self was very high quality and Jester always put on a great show. Both young and old where laughing at him in the ring.

Know if you can get a hole locker room of seroius wrestlers to come out and watch your match, many of who had just performed or where about to, then god you must be doing somthing right.
