ROH’s Gabe Sapolsky has released a statement via the official ROH message board concerning their ROH World Heavyweight Champion Nigel McGuinness:
“I just got off the phone with Nigel McGuinness and there is good and bad news. The bad news is that Nigel has a torn left bicep. The good news is the doctors think with some rest that he will not need surgery and that it will heal by “Final Battle” weekend at the end of December. Since Nigel has already made his first defence we will keep the belt on Nigel until “Final Battle” weekend. If Nigel is unable to compete by the end of December then we might have to make a move with the belt.
Nigel wants to send his apologies for not being able to compete this weekend. I have to admit that it was a hard conversation with him. Let me assure you that there is nothing in the world that Nigel wants more than to be able to give you great World Title matches this weekend. He has worked his entire life to get to this spot and this is just terrible luck. However,it is for the best that Nigel uses this time to heal so he can be 100% when his World Title reign resumes. Nigel will be available for autographs before both the Philly and NYC events this weekend.
We apologize for the lineup change. We will have something posted soon with revised lineups for this weekend and huge news about “Final Battle” weekend. Thank you for your understanding during these difficult circumstances. We assure you that we will deliver two epic events this weekend. Thank You”.
McGuinness has only recently won the ROH World Championship ending the eight month reign of Takeshi Morishima on 6th October 2007. He has so far defended the title once against Jay Briscoe on 21st October 2007. All at BritishWrestling.co.uk wish Nigel a safe and speedy recovery.
